The impressive Botanical Gardens of Palermo and the Palazzo Steri are two of the university's most notable facilities. The Botanical Gardens is an open series of gardens located on the grounds that formerly belonged to the Chiaramonte. It houses an impressive array of plants from all over the world. It is open to students and visitors.

Not far from the Botanical Gardens is the Palazzo Steri. Built in the early 14th century, it was the residence of the Chiaramonte at one time. It has been the office of the rector of the university since 1984. The Palazzo Steri is one of Palermo's most important and enduring cultural symbols.
